Abhijit Satpati, PhD
Dr. Satpati received his Master of Science (Zoology) and Ph.D. (Zoology) degrees from Bangalore University, India. His Ph.D. thesis was on the neuroprotective potential of endurance exercise and grape seed polyphenols, emphasizing the role of oxidative stress-associated changes in the expression of the muscarinic cholinergic receptor (m1) across different subfields of the hippocampus and medial prefrontal cortex in aging rats. He is particularly interested to understand the molecular mechanisms associated with selective neuronal vulnerability. In 2019 he joined the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of North Dakota as a post-doctoral fellow. He identified Group A Streptococcus infection mediated peripheral inflammation-induced reactive astrogliosis in the hippocampus and cerebral cortex is HLA-II and sex-dependent. He joined the Grinberg Lab in 2021 and is utilizing the quantitative stereology method to study the changes in wake-promoting histaminergic neurons in progressive Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative disorders.
